OPI Nails | Something For Everyone

Lucky me was contacted by an American retailer and distributor of all things nail related (my favourite topic) - Beyond Polish. They kindly offered me the opportunity to try any four nail colours of my own choice from the vast array that they stock and then to share my thoughts here on my blog. I stuck with a brand that I trust and rely on as being absolutely faultless in terms of quality, with a ridiculously extensive range of shades and collections, but they're just on the high end of the price scale so I can't go about purchasing them willy nilly (you do get what you pay for though). However, Beyond Polish offers these OPI varnishes for the astonishing price of just £4.48 a bottle, as opposed to the typical UK price tag of £11.00 each! They also sell Essie for £3.84, as well as the likes of Orly, Zoya and China Glaze if those brands are up your street. (Bare in mind this is an American company and I'm unsure of the shipping costs).

I selected four different shades:  a red (Cajun Shrimp), an orange (Are We There Yet?), a pink (Shorts Story), and a brown (Chocolate Moose) - I'll be honest and say that Chocolate Moose appeared a little bit lighter and more ash-toned on the site, and now that I've seen it in person I'm not so keen! Oops - you can see it on the site here. But it just goes to show the range of colours and shades that are available and how there will always be something for everyone. OPI really pulls out all of the stops in terms of creativity for their shades names; unfortunately this selection I was sent doesn't seem to be the best picks in terms of demonstrating this, but some of my favourite shade names I've come across are: Wooden Shoe Like To Know?, Deutsch You Want Me Baby?, Don't Pretzel My Buttons, and Teal The Cows Come Home.

Anyway, I'm rambling! Onto the shades I have to show you (all swatches are shown with two coats):

Cajun Shrimp is listed as a pink shade, but I'd say that the colour is more true to red, and if anything it has an orange undertone rather than pink. But regardless of what colour family we're going to place it in, it is still my absolute favourite of the bunch and a perfect year-round shade. It's a very pure red colour, no shimmer but is intensely pigmented and super bright and eye catching - the pictures should speak for themselves with how gorgeous this is.

This is my second favourite from the selection and it is a very easy to wear orange shade. It's not pastel, and it's not neon, but it's far from boring either. It has very subtle pink and gold shimmer running through it to add extra dimension and I'm sure it will be a shade I turn to frequently over the summer.

This is a gorgeous creamy pink shade that compliments a tan beautifully. It's a mix between the perfect Barbie pink, and a gentle pink/mauve.

(I've not spelt 'mousse' wrong - that's the shade name!). As I mentioned above, Chocolate Moose appeared different on the site to how it does in person and you can click the link above to see what I mean. I thought that it looked like a very flattering nude shade, but it is infact more of just a very true chocolate brown. It's not all that bad of a colour, it's just not one that I find works particularly well for me.

What do you think of my picks?

Some others that I have my eye on and hope to purchase soon are: Bright Lights - Big Color, Ladies & Magenta-men, Go On Green!, and Need Sunglasses?.

  11. I bought chocolate moose online a few years back and I found the colour was darker than I expected too. If you don't think you'll wear it, I find OPI polishes sell well on eBay even if you admit to having tried it a couple of times x
