Winter Primark Haul | December 2012

I can't quite get over how good Primark is at the moment, I've been absolutely loving their winter stock and there's so many cosy jumpers that I could snatch up, plus I've had my first taste of a 'midi dress' from Primark and stocked up on them so now I'm all sorted for outfits over the next few weeks of festivity. A lot of people have been saying that Primark prices have increased and it's not 'cheap' anymore but I don't think that a single thing I bought was over-priced or expensive at all, everything was extremely good value for money in my opinion.

The items below are what I bought on a visit to Liverpool to last weekend:
Sheer Maxi Dress: £14
This dress doesn't look very sheer on the picture, but it is and it has built in shorts/knickers at the top so obviously you don't have the problem of your underwear being on show. I thought this skirt was a bargain for £14 and is extremely nice for Primark - it has two slits going all the way up the front of it, is an amazing colour and I like the belt that came with it too! I wore this skirt on my birthday night out and got lots of compliments on it - I love it so much.

Both of these midi dresses cost £10.00 each and I'm looking forward to wearing them on nights out over the next few weeks. The grey one is extremely fitted and makes me feel like I daren't breathe in it and it shows every single lump and bump.. but as long as you're having a good body day it's very flattering! The black one is a lot easier to wear because it's looser and a stretchier jersey material so gives you room to move and breathe! I think both of these dress will be pretty timeless and can be worn again and again so were a good staple purchase for just a tenner each!

Striped Knitted Jumper: £10

Dipped Hem Fox Print Shirt: £6
I saw this shirt in a recent Primark haul video by Kate (Dolly Bow Bow) and thought 'Ooo that's cute' but when she said that it was only £6.00 I just knew that I had to have it! It took me a while to rummage around and find but I finally did and I'm glad I spent the time looking for it. Such a lovely little bargain shirt for every day casual wear.

Slouchy Jersey Top (White): £6

Slouchy Jersey Top (Blue): £6

Bobble Hat: £3
Definitely a winter essential! It's been so cold recently that I can't leave the house without a hat on.. plus it's good for covering up bad hair days. For £3.00 everybody should have one.

Scull Scarf: £3
Necklace: £4

Primark is absolutely manic at the moment with Christmas shoppers rampaging everywhere, but if you can bear the crowds then get yourself down there ASAP because there are some bargain gems just waiting to be found!

Beauty Essential #2: Blistex

Blistex Relief Cream 5g £2.25

Blistex and Vaseline are two lip products that have been in my life forever. Like, literally, forever. Since I've been old enough to get dry lips and apply lip balm I've been using Blistex and Vaseline. Naively, I used think that Vaseline was sent by the Gods and was the best lip balm in the world.. but have you ever noticed that the relief when using Vaseline is only temporary and your dry or chapped lips will normally return, often within the hour? Well, Vaseline is made up of petroleum jelly, a substance that will sit on the surface of the lip to provide the illusion of softer and smoother skin until it is worn away; it will not penetrate the lip and provide any internal benefits to help out your dry lips.

Blistex is different though. Formerly 'Blisteze' this used to sit on the top shelf of our bathroom cabinet, the one that as a little girl I couldn't reach, because this wasn't just any lip treatment; this was the ultimate lip treatment. The one you'd need if you had a cold sore creeping in or lips so dry and chapped that they would crack and bleed when you smiled.. all it took was a dab of 'Blisteze' and all your troubles would be gone. That might be a little bit of an exaggerated anecdote but that is how I remember this product from when I was a child!

Blistex is a cheap and cheerful but incredibly effective lip balm/treatment/relief cream that is widely available in Supermarkets, Superdrug, Boots, etc and is 'medicated relief for occasional cold sores, cracked, chapped and sore lips'. Luckily, I'm not one to suffer badly with dry lips or coldsores at all, although the weather's getting bitterly cold outside and it's taking it's toll on my skin just like everyone else's and a little bit of nourishment and moisturising never hurt anybody. There's a big long list of scientific ingredients listed on the front of this packaging and I won't pretend I'm an expert on them, but the two main ingredients: ammonia and phenol help to kill germs and relieve pain, and the cream aids with moisturising and soothing the skin. This isn't just your every day lip balm, this is a real heavy duty nourishing treat for dry lips (if you're not using it to treat coldsores), and for such an amazingly cheap price it really, really works for getting rid of any chapped or dry skin on the lips. A must-have item for every house hold!
