'Get To Know Me'

Hello. Exactly 9 months ago today was the day that I pressed 'publish' on my first ever blog post, and although it basically only said 'Hi, I don't know how to use Blogger, bye!' and then I didn't touch my blog at all again for 4 months it's still the official beginning of 'Cosmetic Crave'.

I never really know when to say that I began my blog.. Is it February 16th when I uploaded my 'Hi' post? Is it June 25th when I wrote introduction post and two more on the same day but then nothing else all month? Or would you say it was August 11th when I started taking things 'seriously' by getting myself a proper layout and regularly posting half decent entries? Personally, I'd say without putting a date on it that in general 'Summer 2012', in particular, August was the beginning of my blog and it's grown a lot since then. I've had a slow start, being very apprehensive and discouraged by the fear of judgement but recently with more people from my life and local to my area starting up their own blogs on a similar topic to mine then I've had more confidence to share mine with people that I know. For months I just wrote away to myself with a handful of followers and it wasn't that I was keeping it a 'secret', I just wasn't actively letting people know what I was doing - I didn't want anyone to think I was weird.. :)

My friend Lucy (see her blog here: LucyRose) text me out of the blue one day basically saying 'oh my god as if you have a blog, I've wanted to start one for ages' and I gave her the nudge she needed to start one up and she gave me the nudge I needed to be more confident with mine and not be scared of other people's opinions. Since then I've happily been tweeting away and it's without a doubt helped my audience to grow; I love looking at my statistics page and seeing that my views between August and October more than tripled! It's not a statistics games of course, but it's nice to know more people are reading and enjoying and you're gaining more recognition for the hard work that you put in! Blogging is time consuming incase you didn't know!

Me & Lucy on holiday in Kavos
So, after realising it's been 9 months (or however you want to count it) that this page has been in existance and 90% of the people reading won't have a clue who's writing it I knew there needed to be a post to change that all around to introduce myself a little more and give you an insight into my personality and life. There was a choice of two 'tag posts' that I wanted to pinch and merge together to do this post, but I ended up thinking that not many of the questions would be that interesting to answer because not many people will care who I was named after, will you? So intead I've just thrown together a couple of 'interesting' facts about myself and a bundle of pictures too.

Basics:
- I'm 19 but will be hitting that 'half way to 40 mark' in just 13 days - argh.
- Don't want to get too specific here but I come from a small town in the north of England and live in Cumbria on the outskirts of the Lake District.
- I'm lucky to come from where I do because it's a beautiful place where not a lot of trouble happens, but it's quite a rural area meaning we're deprived of the excitement that comes with a city lifestyle.
- I go to the University of Central Lancashire in Preston.
- I originally wanted to go to Nottingham Trent University but had a change of heart in the summer before starting and decided I wanted to stay closer to home.
- Nottingham is five hours away, Preston is one. Considering I come home from Preston almost every weeks it looks like Nottingham wouldn't have been a very appropriate choice.
- I'm now in my second year at UCLan and I study law.
- I have A levels in maths, biology and french.
- I don't have a future life plan. At all.

People:
- When I'm at home I live with my mum, dad and sister.
- My dad works offshore, based at Aberdeen, so isn't at home all of the time.
- My little sister and I have a very love-hate relationship. We can go for weeks on non-speaking terms but when we're on good terms we get on amazingly well.
- We're a similar age (she's 17) but we have quite different personalities so we clash easily.
- I have a boyfriend called John who I've been with for nearly 2 years and love very much. I'd easily say that he's my best friend.

Beauty:
- I enjoy lazy days in a onesie with a messy bun on the same level as a glam night out with heels and fake tan.
- I've got quite an uncontrollable shopping addiction even though I currently don't have a job.
- If I was given £1,000 there's not a chance I'd save it. Hello shopping spree!
- My boyfriend makes frequent jokes about how appropriate my blog name is because I literally crave cosmetics. I get a buzz from buying shampoo.
- I once had my lip pierced for a total of 4 days before I realised it was a big mistake and took it out.
- My hair has been a range of colours, from blonde, to black, to red, to purple ..now it's ombre.
- 30% of my wardrobe is from ASOS, another 30% is from Primark. 20% is from Topshop and the rest is New Look / H&M / Republic and River Island.
- I would choose to go shopping for make-up/hair and skin care products over shopping for clothes.
- I don't care about high heels; I own about three pairs.
- ..And I don't like wearing lip gloss.
- But I do care about having nicely painted nails. Glitter nails are my favourite.

Random:
- My boyfriend and I are currently hooked on Prison Break.
- I've seen every episode of FRIENDS at least 100 times and I don't even think I'm exaggerating.
- Lost and Desperate Housewives are my favourite TV programmes.
- My favourite recent film is Friends With Benefits.
- If I could be anybody else I'd be Beyonce. Mila Kunis comes second.
- My life is organised by endless 'to do' lists.
- I never stick to these 'to do' lists, I am the queen of procrastination.
- If I could live in any UK city it would be Liverpool.
- I would love to live in New York for a year.
- It annoys me that I still don't have any idea what I'd like to do with life, not even a general direction.
- I prefer being at home to being at university for the home comforts and decents meals.
- John's mum cooks up a Sunday roast every weekend and it's my favourite part of the week.
- I eat a lot of pepperoni pizza and pasta bakes.
- I eat too much fast food and junk food and not enough vegetables.
- I'd eat Nandos mash all day if you let me.
- ..With strawberry laces for dessert.
- I've seen Take That live and cried because I was so excited when they came on stage.
- I used to play the piano, until I got to grade 7 and then quit :(
- I once had two pet rats. They were called Pringles and Banjo. When they died I got two more called Pebbles and Bam Bam - The Flintstones anyone?
- I've also owned multiple hamsters and gold fish.
- I once had three gerbils called 'Tom Dick and Harry'. I wouldn't recommend gerbils as pets - eugh.
- I now have no pets.
- I enjoy cleaning my teeth in the shower.
- My coffee mug holds 1 pint of coffee and I can't function unless I've had my daily caffeine fix.
- My Starbucks drinks of choice is a caramel macchiato.
- Our family has recently moved house. I lived in the same place for 19 years so was originally unsupportive of this decision to move. I don't mind at all now because our new house is much nicer than our old one.
- We have a hot tub in our back garden. I went in once and then broke out in an allergic rash the next day so now I'm scared of it.
- I'm lucky to have been on some of the most amazing family holidays: Dubai, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Florida, Lapland, Mediterranean cruise.. the list goes on.
- I've recently been on holiday without my parents: to Kavos with the girls and to Marbella with my boyfriend.
- I would love to travel a lot more and see more of the world.

What's In My Make Up Bag?

Wow. I am literally in shock! This is my big old make up bag that cost me just £3.00 from Primark that I never, ever empty or attempt to sort out in any way shape or form. I travel back and forth between home and university more or less every weekend and this is what I call my 'essentials bag' that travels with me as there's bits and bobs of make up etc at both ends of my life but these are my core products that I'll always be reaching for wherever I am. It's pretty hefty for a bag of 'essentials', especially when I've always considered myself as low maintenance!

At the start of September this bag set off with pretty minimal contents but has since accumulated to quite a large amount, but surprisingly the bag is still no where near to be bulging - it fits SO much inside it. I haven't ever really known what's inside this bag until I decided to take the snaps for this post and I started scooping everything out and I don't understand how it all even fits in there? Of course bear in mind that I don't wear every single one of these products every day; they're just my favourites that I pick and choose from, so here's what's in my make up bag:

The Base:
The Body Shop Mattifying Day Cream | Benefit The Pore-Fessional Primer | Caudalie Perfecting Day Fluid | Witch BB Cream | The Body Shop Tea Tree Primer

The Face:
Rimmel Stay Matte Powder | Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation | Benefit Sunbeam | Topshop Holidaze Bronzer | YSL Touche Eclat | Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer

So much love for these three and it's obvious from the scruffy state of their packaging!

Minis and sample sizes are perfect for the make up bag!!
Benefit The Pore-Fessional | Benefit Sunbeam | Clinique Chubby Stick | Clinique High Impact Mascara

The Eyes:
MUA Single Eyeshadow | ELF Brow Kit | Rimmel Scandaleyes Nude Eyeliner | Benefit Instant Brow Pencil | MaxFactor Masterpiece Beyond Length Mascara | MaxFactor Masterpiece Colour Precision Eyeshadow | Barry M Metallic Liquid Eyeliner | Clinique High Impact Macara
The Lips:
Revlon Lip Butter in 'Berry Smoothie' | Clinique Chubby Stick | Carmex Cherry Lip Balm | Blistex Relief Cream | Balance Me Lip Balm | Einstein Lip Therapy Balm
Are these all really necessary??

30ml Next 'Just Pink' Perfume
L'Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream | The Body Shop Vitamin E Eye Cream
Miscellaneous:
Tweezers | Bracelet(?) | Plenty of hair grips! | Make up brushes

Real Techniques Core Collection Brush Set

For just a day to day basis there is so much in here that I don't use, especially lip balm wise! I'm going to have a little sort through and probably down size it a lot!

Yep, it all fits in!

..Fits in AND zips up!

What's In My Shower | September

I wrote this post at the very beginning of September while I was still at home sweet home and in between packing all my stuff up to move back to uni and I forgot that it failed to post and it's been sitting as a 'draft' for quite a number of weeks now. So I thought that I may as well re-post this now..

These are just random little posts that I love to have a nosy at and maybe you're interested too? I find that the products in my shower never stay the same for long which is why I've named this as a 'September' edition, as by next month there will probably a whole array of new things in there.

For my hair my daily shampoo and conditioner are the Aussie Miracle Moist duo which I find really great for regular washing as they make my hair soft and shiny, don't strip it of colour and don't weigh it down either - plus like all Aussie products they smell absolutely gorgeous! As my hair has been subject to years of dyeing and recently bleaching to create the 'ombre' effect, not to mention the heat abuse it is regularly put through, my hair does need the occasional bit of TLC which is why I have a couple of masks in there which I rotate between. The Lee Stafford Hair Growth Treatment Mask mainly focuses on improving the condition of your roots to encourage better growth and the L'Oreal Elvive Full Restore 5 is an intensive conditioning mask focusing on the limp mid-lengths and ends. I also have a 58ml tube of Clairol ColourSeal Intensive Conditioning Creme left over as I have recently coloured my hair and this is supposed to replace your ordinary conditioner once a week for 6 weeks in order to keep your new colour looking fresher for longer.

For my body I have this Next Just Pink Body Wash that was received as part of a gift set for Christmas along with the matching perfume and body lotion. It doesn't have a very strong scent, it's quite light and girly but lathers up nicely and does the job of keeping me clean and fresh - Just something that was sat in a cupboard and needed using up really. I also use the Lush Jilted Elf Shower Jelly occasionally (this was another Christmas gift!), and although it is seasonal it is still a fun product to use as how often do you get to scoop glittery green jelly out of a tub and rub it all over your body? Apparently this stimulating jelly is good for helping to shift a hangover so I tend to use this on the days I'm not feeling my best; either due to too many cocktails the night before or just a little bit under the weather. Next up, everybody needs a body scrub to exfoliate those dead skin cells and the remains of patchy fake tan, so I'm currently using N-Spa Lemon Souffle which surprise surprise.. I got for Christmas! Last time I was in ASDA I noticed that N-Spa have actually repackaged their products at some point and I don't think the new packaging looks as nice as this one. This scrub has a super citrus-y scent and has a real wake-me-up vibe to it. I absolutely love it and as it's nearly finished I need to look and see if I can repurchase it and hopefully it will be just the same now but in a different bottle.

I have a Biore Blemish Fighting Ice Cleanser in my shower too as I like to cleanse my face while I'm in there too for extra cleanliness. This is supposed to be 'complexion clearing' as it contains salicylic acid and is oil free, but I didn't find it all that effective on me, but it works well enough for a quick wash in the shower as the pump dispenser makes it super easy to use with wet hands.

For after I get out of the shower I have a bottle of Redken Anti-Snap Leave In Treatment waiting for me on the side to run through the ends of my hair after towel drying. I use this treatment after every wash and I have definitely seen noticeable improvement in the condition of my hair - look out for an in depth review to come!

So that's it. That is 'What's In My Shower'. It's nothing too exciting and it's not extremely cluttered either. Just your basic shampoo, conditioner, deep treatment, scrub, wash and cleanser!

What's in your shower?

How Much Is Your Face Worth?

You may be a little bit bored of seeing this tag showing up again and again on your reading list as it does seem to be very popular. However, after seeing many people's totals adding up to over £200 it has made me curious to see just exactly how much my face is worth.
I wouldn't have really thought that my total would even reach 3 figures as I'm not one for regular use of luxurious and high-end products when cheaper alternatives can be found, especially when bearing in mind that this is going to be based on my 'every day face'. But let's see...

Base: Benefit The Porefessional (£23.50).
Skin: Clinique Anti-Blemish Solutions Foundation (£23), FCUK Bronzer (£15), Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder (£3.99), Collection 2000 Cover Up Stick (£2.99), YSL Touche Eclat (£25).
Eyes: MaxFactor Colour Precision Eye Shadow (£6.99), Maybelline 24hr Color Tattoo (£4.99), Barry M Liquid Eyeliner (£4.79), Revlon Grow Luscious Mascara (£10.66), ELF Eyebrow Kit (£3.75).
Lips: Mac 'Lustering' (£14).

Total: £138.66

I'm not really sure at all what to make of this! It is a very low total compared to many others I have read, but let's face it there really is nothing fancy on this list. Maybe I could have a cheaper primer or a dupe of the Touche Eclat if I was wanting to be super thrifty.. but otherwise this list is about as basic as a full face of make-up is going to get! And it's £138. Ouch.

Obviously it can be justified by saying that each of these items will see you through a considerable amount of uses and this price is not cost per wear by any means. I find that products like powders/bronzers last an eternity and take forever just to hit pan on. So that can make you feel a little bit better.

But to think that I spent this amount of money on 12 items and then look over at the huge pile that is the remainder of my untouched make-up collection I feel a little bit queasy! Not to mention the cost of the brushes/tools used for application and the daily skin care routine too. Oh man!

Did you find this post interesting?
Are you scared to find out how much your face is worth?!
