Models Own 'Freak Out' | Mirrorball Collection

Hellooo. I hope you're all having a good weekend so far, just a quick post today to show you my new Models Own nail varnish that I am loving at the moment. I'm mostly going to let the pictures do the talking for this one, but I'll just give you a tiny bit of information about it too..

This glitter top coat is from Models Own 'Mirrorball' collection that they released in the later half of 2012 and it was one that didn't really excite me or stand out to me at the time. I started to see a few swatches of the collection appear in recent weeks, (out of nowhere really because it has been a while since it's been released) and this one particular post by Chelsea (link!) tipped me over the edge into purchasing the blue bottle from the collection, called 'Freak Out'. There are 5 shades in total in the collection: Dancing Queen (green), Boogie Nights (purple), Inferno (yellow), Hot Stuff (pink), and Freak Out (this one, blue). They are all available to purchase online directly from Models Own, or at selected Boots stores too, but I purchased mine from Asos (link) because they offer 10% off for students and free delivery too, so mine cost me £4.50 instead of the usual £5.00. 

The colour that I used as my base is also from Models Own, called 'Feeling Blue' and is lovely and bright but not too 'in your face'. The glitter polish might not be to everybody's taste, and I'll admit that it looks a bit like a children's birthday party, but I think it's very fun and different from a standard glitter top coat. It contains a few different types of glitter particles and gives a very random effect on the nails. The particles do come out quite sparsely on the nails so it took a couple of coats to build it up to the effect that I have in the pictures, but that's a good thing that you can build it up to your own preferred intensity! 

I am loving this look on my nails at the moment ..What do you think of it?

Ahhhh, 5 days until Christmas! Hands up if you're excited!

 

This nail combination is the second one from a pair of Models Own varnishes involving Utopia that I have loved to pieces; the first being Utopia and Ibiza Mix that you can see here: link. I find Utopia a little bit too bland to wear alone but it works really well as a base to a glitter top coat. Jack Frost is one of five nail varnishes in a new collection from Models Own - their Wonderland Collection. It is a very thick consistency, a little bit like a gel and contains translucent iridescent glitter particles that appear different colours in different lights, and also a different colour depending on your base colour, for example if you applied it over a blue base colour then the glitter would be blue, the same with red or pink, etc.

 

I spent a long time deciding on my base colour and swatched many different shades on a nail wheel, almost leaning towards an light blue for an icy look, but eventually settled on the neutral nude shade of Utopia for a very frosted shade. I feel that this looks very 'Snow Queen/ice palace'-esque and is so suited for these chilly December days. It's very seasonally appropriate making the tips of my fingers twinkle away in different colours like Christmas lights! There's hints of blue, green, yellow and pink, and it's very pretty.

Happy 12th December ladies - 12.12.12 the last repeating date of our lifetime! I'm only mentioning this because it has amused me how wild Twitter went at 12.12pm this afternoon and all the screenshot pictures that went up of the date and time saying 12:12 12.12.12! Easily amused, aren't we all. But dates aside, today I am bringing you some more glitter nails. Yes, more.

 

This is the second of two nail varnishes in a new collection from Rimmel; the Precious Stones range. The other shade is a glitter red varnish called 'Ruby Crush' which you can see in my Christmas Nails #1 post: here. Ruby Crush is an opaque red glitter with larger pieces of silver glitter within it, whereas Diamond Dust is a less opaque, but still high coverage, grey/silver glitter with larger holographic pieces in. Diamond Dust took three coats to achieve the look shown above (which makes me dread the day I need to take it off!) and it has a very gritty finish to it, which is nothing that a top coat can't solve.

 

I love the contasting effect given by the more matte grey/silver glitter in comparison to the highly eye-catching holographic particles suspended within it. This nail varnish is so cheap, retailling at just £3.99 and creates such a beautiful festive look! I also love the really wide brushes on Rimmel polishes that offer quick and easy application, coating the whole nail in just one stroke, and also how quickly these dry - there is no hanging around with tacky nails for up to an hour like with some glitter varnishes; it's literally minutes until it's dry as a bone and you're good to go!

 

I would highly recommend Rimmel Precious Stones - 001 Diamond Dust to anybody!

Hello lovely ladies! Are you all as excited for Christmas as I am? Just 17 sleeps to go.

 

I've been stocking up on my glitter varnishes ready to add a bit of glitz and glamour to my nails for the party season ahead, and two of Rimmel's new releases have joined my collection. Rimmel's Precious Stones collection consists of just two shades: a silver (diamond dust) and a red (ruby crush). This red shade is a super sparkly opaque red glitter with a few chunkier silver particles thrown in the mix for a bit of added dimension. It's really high coverage with just two coats needed to completely cover the nail and it dries incredibly quickly. Very eye catching and perfect for Christmas.

I'd really like to excuse my nails at the moment.. I feel like they look disgusting! I've lost misplaced my cuticle oil that I usually use so now my cuticles are all dry and ugly - ew! I love Christmas but I hate winter ..the cold weather does nothing for my skin!

Plus, this nail varnish chips like a bitch. I'd been wearing this for less than 18 hours when I took these photographs and there's already more than a few noticable chips - not great. Still pretty though.

I cannot believe that this is my 100th post!

100 posts in 6 months? I think maybe I've got a little bit too much to say - ha!

But just a little thank you to everyone for supporting me so far, I've really loved writing every single one of these one hundred blog posts and I hope I can continue to write hundreds more.

These are my nails that I hasily painted this afternoon and gave both Utopia and Ibiza Mix their debut appearance. I planned on just wearing Utopia on its own but I thought it looked just a little bit bland and not at all exciting so I threw a glitter on top! I love Ibiza Mix and I like the 'sparse' effect of the glitter particles that it gives with one coat but it can acheive an intense built up look too with multiple coats . There's two different sized chunks of glitter in an array of colours to give a really random and interesting look - I love this combination!

Models Own Wonderland | Jack Frost and Northern Lights

More nails! Yes, more nails! I've developed a new love for Models Own nail varnishes after a little splurge during their 50% Summer Sale and I've loved all of the ones I have tried so far so I'm pretty certain that my little collection of them will continue to grow, and grow, and grow!

Models Own recently brought out their Wonderland collection just in time for winter and the Christmas season, and when could you ever need glitter in your life more than you do at Christmas? The 5 piece collection consists of 5 different glitter polishes, all completely different styles of glitter which makes a nice change from just one polish in a variation of shades. Of the five beautiful polishes; Jack Frost, Blizzard, Northern Lights, Southern Lights, and Snow Flake; I showed some restraint and only purchased the two that stood out to me the most: Jack Frost and Northern Lights.

Jack Frost, pictured below, is described as 'a wash of iridescent soft sparkle in a cloudy translucent base' and is very sheer and only really suitable to wear over a base colour. It gives a lovely pearly glittery finish with hints of blue and purple and is great for adding a bit of sparkle to your base colour.

Northern Lights, pictured below, is my new absolute favourite shade ..ever! Described as 'a fine holographic multi-tonal glitter with a pink finish' it is far more opaque than first expected and can very easily be worn alone and just two coats can give opacity similar to the colour shown in the bottle. As described it is a fine glitter and a variety of different colours but predominately pink and the range of colours that catch lights different definitely give appropriateness to the name 'Northern Lights'.

These swatches bug me because they're not fantastic quality and haven't at all picked up the fine details at all so don't do these gorgeous glitters the full justice that they deserve, but I hope you can get the jist of it them from my combined cheap camera and bad photo taking skills!
