DIY: Lemon & Lime Body Scrub

It's only in the recent year or so that I've become a big, big fan of exfoliating. The reasoning behind why I didn't bother for 20 years but it's now my favourite bath time activity? - I honestly couldn't tell you. I don't know what triggered it, but the combination of sugar grains and moisturising oils on the legs, arms and rest of the bod to buff away dead skin cells is a step I just can't skip these days.

Even better, here I have got a cheap and easy DIY receipe for a citrus sugar scrub!

You will need:
- 1 organic small lemon
- 1 organic small lime
- 1 cup of organic cane sugar
- 2 tbsp of organic coconut oil (this comes in a solid form)
- 1 tsp of peppermint oil (or extract)

I went out and purchased all of these ingredients at my local Booths supermarket, all organic and/or Fairtrade, and it all came to around £6. The coconut oil was the most expensive, but it will come in handy for future healthy cooking ideas and also as a hair treatment and body moisturiser - it's a great all rounder!

Extra bonus ingredients:
- 1 tsp of food colouring (my preferred colour would've been yellow, but green was all I could find!)
- You could also grate some of the lemon and lime peel into your scrub too!

4 simple steps:
- mix in a bowl your 'wet ingredients': the coconut oil, peppermint oil, colouring and the juices squeezed from the lemon and lime.
- pour in the sugar and mix it up well.
- if you're adding citrus peels then stir them in now.
- find a clean, dry container and transfer your homemade scrub into it!

See, how simple and easy was that? You can also add any food colouring you like to change the colour of it, or you could also use no food colouring at all. These could also make an adorable gift if you're short on time, ideas or money - just pretty up a jar a little bit with a nice ribbon and some decorations and I'm sure it would put a smile on somebody's face! It makes for a great weekend activity with friends and it does actually feel amazing on the skin!

Thank you to Eco Market for providing me with the basis for this recipe and I hope that some of you reading this try it too - be sure to leave me a comment or tweet me if you do it yourself!

  18. Such a handy thing when you're out of your favorite body scrub! I'm currently obsessing over LUSH's Rub Rub Rub,love it to pieces. When I make my own body scrub, I usually just mix olive oil, sea salt, sugar and a bit of shower gel. Your recipe sound much more refreshing and summer-appropriate :D
